Lola Fatoyinbo, Ph.D
Research Scientist
Dr. Lola Fatoyinbo is a Research Scientist in the Biospheric Sciences Lab at NASA GSFC where she studies forest ecology and ecosystem structure with Remote Sensing. She serves on the GEDI and ICESat-2 Mission Science Teams and is Principal investigator on NASA Earth Science research. Lola received her Doctorate in Environmental sciences with a focus on Forest Ecology and Remote Sensing of Mangrove Wetlands. After her Ph.D, she received a NASA Postdoctoral Program Fellowship at the Radar Science and Engineering Section at the Caltech-Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where her primary research focus was on quantifying forest extent, height and biomass through the development of multi-sensor (passive optical, SAR and lidar) fusion algorithms. At NASA GSFC, her research is focused on characterizing the vulnerability and response of forests and coastal ecosystems to disturbances from land use and climate change; LiDAR and SAR remote sensing of Terrestrial and Coastal ecosystem structure and carbon stocks; as well as using Earth Observation to support the Biodiversity, Conservation and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Lola was recently awarded the Esmond B. Martin Royal Geographical Society (RGS) Prize. Read more about this achievement here.

-
Celio Resende De Sousa, Ph.D.
ASSOCIATE RESEARCH SCIENTIST
Celio received his doctorate from Oregon State University in Forest Ecosystems & Society. His research focus is on using cloud-computing and multi-temporal/ multi-sensor data to characterize & quantify land cover extent & change in tropical regions along with its biophysical and socioeconomic impacts.
-
Atticus Stovall, Ph.D.
ASSISTANT RESEARCH PROFESSOR
Atticus is working directly with the GEDI science team to improve forest structure calibration with a global database of laser scanning acquisitions and developing high-resolution global canopy height products.
-
Abigail Barenblitt
FACULTY SPECIALIST
Abigail holds an M.S. in Wildlife & Fisheries Science and her work focuses on monitoring deforestation dynamics and the creation of interactive GEE apps. She is leveraging her current research of forest complexity towards a PhD at University of Maryland.
-
Anthony Campbell, Ph.D.
ASSISTANT RESEARCH SCIENTIST
Anthony is conducting a global change analysis of salt marsh environments and quantifying the impact on carbon stocks. He is interested in applying remote sensing to understand how critical socio-ecological systems are changing.
-
Cheryl Doughty Ph.D.
POSTDOC
Cheryl is a NASA Postdoctoral Program Fellow through the Goddard Space Flight Center. She uses remote sensing to study how coastal salt marsh and mangrove ecosystems are responding to climate change across spatial scales. Her current research focus is high-resolution mapping in dynamic, climate-sensitive ecotones where tropical mangroves meet temperate salt marshes in order to capture changes in mangrove extent and structure that have implications for Blue Carbon.
-
Adia Bey, Ph.D.
GEOSPATIAL ANALYST
Adia has a background in remote sensing, forest monitoring, and participatory GIS. She has worked on environmental projects in 35 countries across 6 continents with the United Nations, NGOs and community-based organizations. Her work with NASA focuses on monitoring land use and land cover change, mapping forest ecosystems, and strengthening regional technical capacity for remote sensing and GIS analysis.
-
Liza Goldberg
RESEARCH ASSITANT
Liza’s research interests include remote sensing-based monitoring of global mangrove and wetland vulnerability. In collaboration with NASA & Google, she created an educational program called Cloud to Classroom that uses satellite imagery to make the science of global climate and environmental change simpler and more accessible.
